Ha, your right.

We would have to have a handicapped race of some sort and not call it a race.

Do they do orienteering type events, or treasure hunts or something like that. Id be up for any sort of boating entertainment.

Have you ever been round the IOW in your rib? If you haven't then for sure you will enjoy it more by cruising around and enjoying the sights and not holding on all the time for your dear life. There are a few good places to even stop for a good pub lunch

I have been around countless times over the years and would not want to race just too much to miss

I haven't been all the way around, I've stopped there for a picnic on the beach a few times.

Usually racing is way to exciting to worry about missing the view- unless it's F1, then the view is probably more interesting than the racing.

Would you really think racing round the IoW is a good location to race. Bear in mind all the discussions on here about the WAFIs at Cowes Week and why a yacht race is permitted through one of the worlds busiest shipping areas.

If you are racing you don't want to be worrying about MPZ's and other shipping. Not sure a small open boat is the place to be trying to make some of those navigational decisions at 30kts when you don't really want to easy off the gas to assess what's happening. Very different on a cruise when if you aren't quite sure what a ships intentions might be you can ease off the power or move away from it without risking a few seconds on the finish time.

A race sounds great in principle... ...I suspect its fraught with problems... And saying lets have a race but not call it a race will not help when the MAIB are reviewing your case they will still describe that you were part of a first round the island challenge or whatever you describe it as. If its handicapped its a race ;-) There is no other purpose to handicapping! In fact you'd be better having it as proper race through the RYA, at least they will normally do the investigation in the event of an accident rather than the MAIB... ;-)

What about a poker run?

The K & Q in Hamble used to do one (Some friends even won it in my RIB one year while I had to work did share the prizes though)

The K&Q Poker Rib Raid - Saturday 12th November 2011

Not a race but still competitive by chance and works for any size RIB, SIB or otherwise...

Shiny shoe, It's up to the organiser to decide if the location is a good idea, I just wanted to know if an event exists that I can turn up, pay my money and race.
As for calling it a race or a challenge - they were jokes about another thread
