Welcoming the fleet to Cork

I went out to meet the fleet and tried to get a few photos as they arrived in after a really long run. They blasted past me enjoying the fianl furlong and I suspect the imagined smell of a hot meal in Crosshaven

Most people were in great spirits after some good weather and some fantastic sights like the Skelligs, The Bull and of course the incredible Fastnet Rock. Hopefully the pix will give you a feel for the day and here's hoping they enjoy some good weather for the final leg(s).

Well done Trevor and Rik - that is some amazing feat you pulled off there. I'm not sure I'd have done it in Blue Ray, let alone anything smaller!

And that's that then!! Done and dusted/drenched.......
To announce in the middle of winter that yourself and family are going to go completely around Ireland 'anticlockwise' on a certain date in July,in a small RIB,with no trailering or short-cuts and actually do it is one a hell of an achievement, well done.
From the mountain of data that was collected, should make for a very interesting story.............

and more thanks..

while I am thanking peeps, have to give special thanks to Stu
(RogueWave) for taking over the helm of Merlin on the two days
I couldnt drive anymore due to my back injury.
The second of those days involved my transfer to Top Hat mid leg, and he
did a great job on that day.

OK folks, firstly well done to all who took part, sounds like you had an amazing adventure. I was wondering whether there has been any talk of the event being repeated next year? I know its still early days as the paint is still drying on the 2013 event, but has there been any discussion or hearsay ?

Well we got home safe and sound. We had a small change of plan and we all went to Kilmore Quay to complete the circumnavigation. The atmosphere when we entered the harbour was fantastic, all whistles and hooters and those fantastic young girls on Pink Panther playing there music as though they had just come back from the disco rather than a near !000 miles rib raid round Ireland. We had run from Crosshaven to Kilmore approx.70 miles had a short break then off to Nyland along with Top Cat, Option 4,Kalish and Searider.
Jurgen on sea rider led the way and really impressed us with the way he could handle that small rib.(He had a 23hr drive to Germany from Nyland,he is some tough cookee) We had a great crossing and soon had the boats on the trailers for the long drive to Blackpool.
I would like to thank Hugo and his team for arranging this challenge,I had not met Hugo before and was very impressed with his tact ,humour, communicating skills and patience. It is no easy job organising and being responsible for the safety of so many people in such a harsh environment
and Hugo did it with great skill.
A special mention also to Paul G. and his family.Paul is a truly professional
and dedicated mariner, his presence as "sweeper" was most reassuring to all the fleet.
We met some great people in all the other crews and hope to meet up again.

Would I do it again, you betcha, it was one of the finest most exhilarating couple of weeks in my 65years

As promised a quick rundown on boat and equipment

Boat Black Hawk 7m Osprey Vipermax , nothing broke except for a slight crazing in the screen due to the constant pounding, very strongly made by Mike Whitham very soft riding if a little wet.
Engine 250 E-tec, didn't miss a beat, a bit thirsty but in hindsight we should have dropped the prop pitch or gone 4 bladed.
Seats. Scott "wide boys" ,bloody fantastic!
Raymarine hybrid touch screen plotter/sounder ,bit fiddly on touch mode
rain and spray would activate it so we turned the touch off, otherwise ok
Garmin gps map 550s plotter/ sounder ,ok as a standby but gave up the ghost
after 6 days
Icom IC m505 ,VHF mike stopped working after 4 days tried to clear water out but transmission was intelligible,so had to listen on fixed and transmit on handheld ,not ideal
Typhoon drysuits, fantastic could wear them all day long ,never let in a drop.
Gecko Mk 10 helmets ,great ,would have struggled without them.
Buhel bluetooth comms. didn't work in those conditions, stopped using them on day 2
Aldi £10 dry bags, superb please can you get some more Mr Aldi.
Mac Wet gloves ,ok but preferred my Barbour neoprene shooting gloves, warmer, more grip.
Icey-tec insulated cool box, great could put all the eatables together.
We fitted a large lockable storage box behind the seats and that proved to be a boon for storing clothes ect.
Fitted deck tie downs.Great could securely lash things down, great for going through tornados!!

They're the Children of Lir. As Swans, they were forced to endure 900 years on the wild waters of Ireland. I alluded to them earlier in the thread but couldn't find such an eye catching graphic, so I expect that you missed that one
