Certifiably Nah, he just enjoys a challenge. Dont forget on RB4 he broke his arm whilst we were at Wells next the Sea so unfortunately he had to complete the journey by road. So it was a natural thing to go to the Orkney SIB challnge by sea from Devon and once you've gone that far you might as well continue all the way around!

Out of the fog......

Wow, they are off Lands End already (12:30) although i must say it's quite rough off Ramsgate.

DJL has done most of the planning for a RB attempt in a small petrol RIB, in no particular hurry - helped by Brian i beleive. He and I were discussing taking top-banana this summer which may or may not happen. It's never intended to be a group event in anyway but i guess a well matched boat would be welcome, but it really would need to be no slower and no faster and Petrol!

I just went out to see them and missed them by 15 min or so... what a shame... I believe i could hear the engine in the distance though.. I clearly underestimated their journey, but looks like they cut a corner at isla which i was not expecting... that would have been those 15 min!

"Update Sun 10th July - Round Britain Attempt Halted

The attempt on the Round Britain Powerboat World Record halted at 01.03 hours today. The position of the boat was 50 miles south of Cape Wrath.

Early on Saturday afternoon the boat hit an unknown object in the water during the second leg in the Irish Sea.

The team made the first of a number of emergency repairs in Northern Ireland which enabled them to continue their progress around Britain. They made further efforts to repair the damage sustained during the fuel stop in the Kyle of Lochalsh.

At this stage the team were on schedule to beat the existing world record of 31 hours by five hours 43 minutes.

Unfortunately the damage proved more extensive than first thought and a reluctant decision was made to call off the attempt.

The crew are all safe and well. "
