Marine Track showed they had put in at Weymouth but then a little later they seemed to be underway again, progressing very close inshore around Lyme Bay. Then I lost the Marine Track connection!

Looks like they might be out. They were in the lead at one point, but one of their engines blew up. Not good! In Weymouth at the moment trying to fix it....
Edit: apparently its not terminal and they could well be underway again.

They appear to have made it as far as Exmouth.

I find the results amazing. 32% did not make the first leg. Yes, I know that racing is different from casual boating; but thrashing the boat on the first leg does not make too much sense. I guess, us amatures would not stand a chance of completing a trip like that.

I know what you mean. Two boats broke down with engine trouble on the start. Surly if you're about to enter a very long race you would have all your kit well sorted before hand?

Speaking to Fabio's shore team...they are replacing both engines, they blew when the cooling malfunctioned. Which is not a big problem, the biggest challenge is replacing both rudders, they dont have spares so are having some fabricated at the moment. The boat will then then be transported overnight down to Plymouth to restart tomorrow

i know this is a stupid question but how will the points / overall positions be effected with the boats that have been moved overland to plymouth (or any othe rleg for that matter)
dont get me wrong, i want to see Fabio in the race as well as all of the other boats. they have all put so much time and effort into getting to the line i want them all back in portsmouth but it does seem a little unfair if they win overall if they do one or more of the legs by land transport??

Just looked at the chart shwoing the current positions - does it show who actually came 1st 2nd 3rd etc or just by class? I had to look at the average speeds to see who was actually the fastest.

Marinetrack just shows the last reported position, so unless you're watching live it won't tell you who got there first. Some of the apparent stragglers are reports from earlier in the day - presumably their trackers units packed up.

They're really going to struggle tomorrow I think with the forecast as it is. I'm watching the swell height increasing slowly but surely at the moment (currently 2.2metres, meaning it's probably over 3 closer in right now)which will certainly slow them down as they make their approach to the coast here.
Speaking with Peter24/7 earlier, we may try and get out in the boats to watch them arrive in the afternoon. If the swell has breaking waves, we may have to find a bay or something to get shelter, but hopefully the long lens will ok on the cam if it isn't raining.
The Metoffice are currently giving this at Milford tomorrow...
