Rough Seas

Hi Guys,

Reading RIB INT and was wondering if any of you RIbbers have any interesting stories of such places as the Severn and Bay of Fundy.
Also the Severn Bore is this a problem for ribbers.

I recall some serious place Corryvecking Straight between Islay and Jury Scotland with 9 kt flood and versus tide for 30 ft over falls including a whirlpool where the 200 Ft dept comes up to 30 ft.

I would say the biggest problem is just how shallow the water is combined with some nasty reefs and the way the Atlantic is squeezed between Ireland and Cornwall/Devon. That combined with the massive tides makes life interesting to say the least.

Foregt stuffing into waves - you have to be carefull you don't stuff the bow into the seabed!!!

The severn bore wasn't much bigger than a wave on an average day in the solent the couple of times I've seen it.

Thanks for the links Ezgoing. Very fascinating. Here are some links about the Bay of Fundy and the Reversing Falls along the St John River in New Brunswick.

The Bristol Channel is always quoted as having the 2nd highest tide in the world and yet when you look at the usual tide tables the avergae daily tides seem higher.

I looked at the photo on Wikipedia of the Fundy high and low tides and it didn't look much - maybe they didn't choose the best place to take the pics?

Here is an example of the range at Cardiff. This wasn't even taken at very low water.
