Rope needed

Can anyone recommend me a rope supplier that will sell me a specific length with a loop spliced on each end ?

I've found loads that sell lengths, but actually just want a 3m bit with two small loops on the end.

Cheers.

"U Boat" Chandlery in Gosport would make that up for you and their prices are good as well.

These will make you anything you want for peanuts, including Dyneema winch ropes, stainless steel ratchet straps, the whole shooting match. They are in Wakefield West Yorks, about as far away from the sea as you can get, so don't charge yachtie prices, only proper Yorkshire prices

Non Yachtie prices - thats what I like.

I was also looking for a hose and reel to keep on the boat to wash it down while in the marina - all the chandlery shop prices were about £20-30.

The garden center was £8 for the same thing

Why don't you just tie a perfection or loop knot? That's a pretty strong loop for everyday use and you can tidy ends by splicing and finish off with tape or thread.

I'm open to suggestions, especially as I have zero experience.

The situation that needs a good solution is how to tie up the rear of my RIB when in the marina in Corsica. They are all moored bow into the dock, so that bits easy - I've a couple of springs on the front for that.

On the rear your meant to attach it to the rope that lies underwater and comes back to the dock.

So what Id like is a short 2-3m length which has three Karabiner's on it. The ones on each end I clip to the eyes on my transom, then that leaves one in the middle, which I clip to a loop I put in the rope under water.

Or I could use a continuous loop, thread that through the eyes and just use one karabiner for the mooring rope.

That means its quick and easy to come in/out of my mooring, no faffing about like a numpty.

Splicing 3 strand is a doddle after a bit of practice, take your time

These guys seem very cheap for 3 strand nylon rope. Timko Ltd (UK): Nylon Rope,3 Strand Nylon Rope 2p/m for 6mm 750KG breaking strain. £5 delivery for <=1KG so you can get 44m for £15

Again, haven't used them though and would require you to splice your own eyes...

Coupla tips from a novice (me)

Buy a "fid" - it's not essential, but makes for an easier and tidier job.

If working with nylon, use electrical tape to stop the strands of the rope unravelling - so first wrap some around the rope at the 5-7th twist. Then use some to seal up the ends of each strand before you unravel them. They'll loose their twist, so you'll have to reapply some as you splice them.

Sorry, that's 20p not 2p/m. Still cheap though.
