If you want a very easy and good way to splice an eye into 3 strand google Pro splice;

Pro Splice

Lets you fix loop size and you don't need to prat about with tape or thread etc for some of it.

Thanks for that! It's a much more secure* splice as well as being less of a faff.


*Tighter fit to the thimble, generally.

Agreed, I wouldn't use anything less than 10mm, my mooring lines are 12mm. It's not just about breaking strain, it's also about chafing, cutting & age deterioration.
