rnli training exersise

a few pics from Tuesday evening

my wife and I were very lucky to be invited to take part in the local lifeboat training evening

we launched at 6 45 and set of to a spot of our choice
the lifeboat contacted us on channel 16 we then moved to another channel for the exercise

after a very short radio message they located us using d/f equipment
arriving with us in 7 minutes
p
they towed us from the bow for a short distance
then towed us side on for a wile

after the exercise we then followed them back to there boat house

a very enjoyable evening allowing me to practice my radio coms and navigation and knot tying

thanks to the crew of the toby rundle and there shore crew

Well done - sounds like a great evening all round

The RNLI were/are always on the look out for competent crew/boats to help them during training exercises to allow new volunteers gain "real life" experience of different boats and equipment.

Here is a pic of the last one I was involved with

However the way things are going this may become a thing of the past.

RIBase
Saw a real life version of that today with Beaumaris Lifeboat towing a singlehanded (I think) yacht back to a mooring off Gallows Point today.
