River Tees (launching at the Barrage) question

Anyone ever launched at the Tees Barrage? If so what distance can you go up stream and what are the restrictions. Also, to get downstream, what is the procedure through the lock and how easy is it to get out into the sea and back?

Have launched there many times, need to pay and register to go upriver and the same to go down plus pay the harbour fees, loverly river upstream with loads of wildlife and grass banks but has a speed limit all the way apart from the first half mile only if your towing a skier and its a watersking "slot", they allocate different days/times for all different watersports, been a good few miles past yarm wheres theres a pub on the river bank and shops including a chippy,

Barrage number is 01642 633273 for all info and fees and they want insurance details.

Cheers mikesyam. What sort of depth is it up to Yarm? Is there anything to be wary of on the way up?

No probs at all, theres a 60 odd seater steel ferry goes up there and turns around using its bow onto the bank to turn, if you are lucky enough to get a hot day its a great day out, I have great memories of the kids years ago swimming most of the way back down to the barrage, theres also a indoor butterfly farm at preston park which is on the way up which is well worth a look if you like that sort of thing but loads of swans and ducks ect on the river, got a nice flybridge cruiser now as well and im tempted to go up to yarm overnight but she only gets 2 mpg and its 25 mile there plus the harbour fees then the river fees as well, might be worth it though if its sunny as the boozer by the river had loads of good lucking girls lol.

The Blue Bell is great pub, with good food. Just on the right of the bridge.

Well did it on Saturday, took the flybridge up past teesport through the barrage and up to yarm, shows how long its been since I was last there because we used to tie up at the ferry landing and look at the girls in the beer garden, you cant see it now as the trees have grown higher lol, actually went through the bridge as well and went a few miles more upriver then had a barby on the bank, stopped the night behind the pirate ship at stockton and had a good laugh at the people coming off the late night ferry cruise all drunk but a great weekend and red hot.
