you need to go look and inspect both, plus sea trial. RibTec would be another option i imagine.

the Rib Quest is quite a new brand where as RibCraft is well established - this may be the only reason for the price difference, or the costs may be saved elsewhere!

I would look closely at build quality and fit out quality. I saw the 1st show model of the ribquest and was unimpressed, however i am sure things have moved a long want since so make this as a passing comment which holds no weight!

i would prefer the robcraft myself
i met the ribquest bunch at Southampton, i had a browse the the ribs on show and commented on the seats and consol etc, "isnt that Outhill stuff"?? no they replied, this is our own seats etc, i replied they look exactly the same, and im sure that they are the same,

so i trecked along to Outhill where they were very helpfull and questioned about the outhill copy.

there response was, it is a copy but as they have changed a vent location, they considered it theirs!!

i then asked for 3 quotes from Ribquest, it took 4 months for the right quote to be sent, the breakdown in components showed that they had charged more for the seats etc than the original designers,

Nice company to deal with!!

ribquest

well everyone has their own opinions so heres mine..... after shopping around i decided on a 5.8 ribquest.. build quality and aftersales service proved to be excellent i found david rose and his team at ribquest spot on with everything they promised so much so i,m considering upgrading to a larger boat and would definetly recommend ribquest ribs to anyone

on another note 2 weeks ago i took a friend out for a spin he was really impressed with the handling quality and build of the boat ... by the way he happens to be a helmsman for the RNLI ............GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME !!!! ....

How old is it?

Ribquest has had new owners since 2007, and from what I saw at Excel this year they are building much better boats than the original company.

Ribquest

In reply to Matthew H's comment regarding Ribquest seats and consoles. We have a number of single, double jockey seats and also single and dual console's all of which were designed and moulded at our premises, within the business we have a trained pattern maker who builds plugs from timber and other composite materials to produce our own plugs and moulds.
The seat and console in question are similar in design to the outhill seat and console. The seat base was drawn and a wooden plug was built to create the mould this is documented in our files with photos etc, whilst similar in appearance to the outhill seat if you were to put the two together it would be obvious to see the difference as every dimension and shape are completely different.
The same can be said for the console there is not a section or dimension that is the same as an outhill console.

The console is 30mm narrower, 10mm higher, 10mm smaller front - back.
Both forward panels are a different shape and the instrument panel is also different in that it is inset and curved, there maybe other manufacturers that have taken direct copies but Ribquest is not one of them.

Regarding quality and build finish, we will let our 5 YEAR WARRANTY speak for itself.....

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COME AND TEST THE 3 BOATS WE WILL BE EXHIBITING AT RIBEX 09

Mr RIBquest... would you be so kind as to give us a short history lesson on your company - as the RIB world geeks, most RIBnetters would be interested.

I would also like to know if you were involved in the initial boat i saw at RIBex in 200x (3,4 or 5 ish?) i am sure it was your first boat and i did not think the finish was too good on the GRP and hope it has improved.

I'm sure members of this forum would be interested in seeing your plug making process. Would you please post some photos?

RIBQUEST LTD “The Facts”…

In 2006 the reigns were pulled in on Ribquest Ltd (Manchester) and marketing ceased, at this time all existing orders were completed to close there order book.

This was due solely to the parent company SUNQUEST pulling in its resources and concentrating on its core business which had its own problems. SUNQUEST later went into administration and were taken over in July 2007.

The Assets of RIBQUEST LTD were purchased by David Rose in October 2007.

RIBQUEST is now a family owned and run business, with no links to the old company. Trading from new workshops & offices in Dronfield, North Derbyshire.

The combined background of our management and workforce range from the Marine engineering industry through to motor sport engineering, GRP & woodworking craftsmen all being experienced rib enthusiasts. This experience enables us to build Rib’s to a standard and quality finish that will withstand the arduous conditions that they are expected to operate in with total reliability.

We build to order bespoke Ribs from 4.8m - 9.5m, for both leisure and commercial use for a range of customers including the emergency services – Police – club safety boats – fish farms – dive organizations – and leisure craft for the serious user.

All our Rib’s have a 5 year warranty.

Our deep V hulls have a proven track record for providing a comfortable dry ride, with very capable sea keeping in the most inhospitable conditions.

Newly designed GRP consoles and seating are all produced in house to ensure that quality of workmanship is second to none.

A comprehensive range of hypalon tube style & Colours and a range of GRP colours are available.

Ribquest have supplied boats to RIB INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE for extensive testing, with excellent results and praise, recent and future articles will endorse this.
