I took delivery of 'Aja' (pronounced Asia) this morning, applied the new name and set off with my instructor into what looked like a miserable days weather....

However within a short while the sun shone and we had a hoot - huge fun! The new engine needs a few more hours running in, but it feels a powerful thing.

There are dozens of things to practice, most of the tricky stuff seems to be low speed manoeuvring in harbours. There's a definite knack to bringing your boat in smoothly - which I managed to do under the watchful eye of my instructor, hopefully I can replicate it when solo. Eeeek!

I have high anxiety about tying up to some fancy yacht and making a hash of it and feeling looking like a prat.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful advice and encouragement, you were all a short cut to years of experience and it was much appreciated.

Oh, I wouldn't sweat it - Yachties ram stuff in port all the time - and they tend to think RIBs are big fenders - so no worries there.....
