Let's re-open this old thread.
Anybody going to RIBEX this year?
I will be there all three days and it would be quite fun to meet some of you guys (any girls around?).

But I thought it would be better to start a new thread, to save wading through last year's posts!

What are your impressions from last year?
"Vi Båtägare", a Swedish powerboat magazine, is sending me to cover the exhibition on their behalf. This is my first such assignment as I am an electronics engineer in my "other life".

Any comments, thoughts, advice about RIBEX will be much appreciated.

From past experience, is any day of the event better than others?

RIBEX is held 18th - 20th May at Ocean Village in Southampton.
There is a short article at <A HREF="http://www.ribmagazine.com/" TARGET=_blank>
RIB On-Line</A>, but that's essentially all I've seen this year.

Looking forward to seeing your new boat Brian, it should be pretty impressive!

John,
I'll be there on Fri morning - first in the Q 'cos I have to catch a plane back to Dublin around lunchtime. Name the spot if you want to meet!
Potential Irish visitors: note you may fly Dublin-Soton - check out www.britishairways.com/inet/regional/uk
although Sat flights are limited.

If you use http://www.ribmagazine.com/show.htm instead it will take you straight to the RIBEX page (save wading through the rest of the site ) but there's not much there!

Southampton Council's site has a bit more information at www.southampton.gov.uk/ribex

Cheers
John

I managed to get down to RIBEX today (Friday) and had a good time looking around and taking photos -- I'll post a page of them when I get a chance.

A few things to look out for if you are going over the weekend:

Zodiac's boat with suspension seats and handlebar steering

The new SportRib race boat

Cabin RIBs from Ribtec, Delta and Scorpion

The new Mercruiser 1.7l 120hp diesel engine

Demonstrations of a 100 person liferaft (more like an inflatable ballroom!)

The RNLI self righting demo

Have a good weekend!

John

(Zodiac's Open Pro 650 features a console with a neatly recessed side mount throttle control box. An interesting alternative to using top mount controls.)
John, the Hysucat has had this concept since inception!

Must say I didn't notice! I thought they had top mount controls? I'm sure the twin engine installations do . . .

Quite correct ... the 6.5m twin Hysucat set-up comes with the recessed controls, very neat and tidy !

I wrote a very short report from RIBEX, accompanied by a few pictures. If you are interested take a look at: http://home.swipnet.se/rib-world/logbook/2001.html

I also uploaded some more pictures here (no description): http://hem.bredband.se/sansej/ribex_2001/FrameSet.htm

I still have some 50 pictures to scan, I'll let you know when they are online.
