Ribcraft 5M

There's an immaculate Ribcraft for sale locally within my budget but have concerns it will be underpowered as it only has 60 4s (nearly new Suzuki) anyone on here have similar set up or opinion?

it would be underpowered a tad. max speed would be 28-30 knots and slow to pick up as a very deep v hull..i doubt it would outrun a decent wave there is another one at BHG MARINE. same price. suz 90 four stroke and in built fuel tank!

Do ribcraft make a 5m not according to their website. Prob a 4.8? If its a 4.8 60hp is the max

I have a 5m Ribcraft (they do exist) with a 70 Yamaha 4 stroke. It will happily do 30+ knots with 2 POB. With a full load - 5 persons + 4 sets of dive kit, it will do about 22 knots (using a fine pitch prop). Problem with the 90HP engines is that they are much heavier than the 70 Yam. Hope that helps

There was a similar discussion on 5.0m Ribcrafts a few years ago here: http://www.rib.net/forum/f8/max-engi...0-a-43761.html

BHG sure know how to charge. Yes it has teak effect deck, wing back seats, and the oversized A-frame tow point, but £16k! Wonder what the reason was to change the engine to a new DF90 for a 2010 boat, under-powered before?

Have you thought about the Ribcraft 5.3m? It will allow side by side jockey seat set up. They do come up occasionally.

Would be very interested in Ribcraft 5.3 if I could find one and prefer side by side jockeys integral tanks etc etc but really struggling to find anything within 15k budget :-( size is an issue need to tow with 1.9 Diesel and store on shared drive without upsetting the neighbours so need to stick to 5m to 5.5m absolute max, have been searching for months and getting very dissolutioned :-( only thing I can't compromise is high tow point but would consider retro fitting adequate A frame if need be. If anyone knows of anything that may be of interest please PM

The 5.3 with that seating is a brilliant boat .rare with that layout. Very very occasionally one may appear..but if you wait for one then be prepared for a long one!its the most sought after layout.

Hi Budgie
I think you'll struggle to find a decent RC5.3 with that layout for sale, certainly at your target budget. I searched for months without success to find a sub 5.5m rib with 4 x single jockeys, and couldn't find one.
As the seating configuration was very important to us (with 2 young children), in the end I blew the budget went for a bespoke new Ribcraft 5.3 - cracking boat for size.

Could you stretch to an older RC 5.85 or an Osprey 5.5 Vipermax?

Thanks Budgie.

A lot of planning did go into her (and some hard negotiating - even so I blew the budget!) but don't regret any of it.

That lay out I think was actually a good investment (or so I tell Mrs T).

You sound as if your in the same sort of situation as I was - wanting a definite boat & unable to find it. Do drop me a PM if you want to discuss your dilemma further. I got a lot of good info from Ribnetters

You will find the right boat if you look long / hard enough & are prepared to make some compromises - we had to decide what as vital & was was "nice to have".

Do talk to the key manufacturers that you've identified, they may know of some boats coming onto the market.
