ribcraft 5.3 price/sale

I am looking for a smaller rib (needs to go onto a trailer with total max weight of 1400kg, incl fuel etc)

it should be able to carry 4 people in comfort without hurting me to much financially.

I stumbled upon the ribcraft 5.3, and there are a number of those on sale

now, strange enough I thought those boats are wanted?? But I noticed that 2 of those are on sale since months.

I think I could put some more seats in it and be ok.

What is wrong here? Am I missing something? They look oke?
Is the price to high? wrong engine?

I would welcome your opinions - and if you have suggestions... I'm open to these.
Note that I am living in Belgium, so I can't just come and look at something.

prices seem ok to me, nothing out of the ordinary, though i am not a dealer.

many people are trading up to 6m plus so these 5.5m and less boats second hand are becoming common. imho

It is also the end of the season, time for a barter and get it even cheaper. Even more so if they have already bought the bigger boat!!

would these mariner engines be injection engines? I'm not familiar with that brand (more a yamaha fan)

We had one on a rental boat this year in Italy, I found it rather noisy but that could be subjective or perhaps an even older type.

but I am not sure I want to pay 27000 euro for a boat with only 3 seats. Perhaps I will go and look at it in person this weekend.

For a comparaison my friend is selling a almost brand new 6m XS rib with a 150 e-tec engine, all new from May 2009 for 26,500€ in France with a really good Snipe trailer that has been registered for use in Europe.

yes, I had seen that one on pneuboat. I am hesitant of the XS-rib because of the materials used in the tubes. I know someone who had such a boat and he was really happy with it (great handling) ... but I cannot fix the tubes if something happens.

I think it is PE or something similar, nothing I could glue myself.

From what I understand it is better than Hypalon although possibly difficult to repair. Fantastic boat though and its already registered in Belgium

its polyurethane - whilst not as easy to work with as hypalon I am sure there are kits available - as thats what Valiant use in most (all?) of their boats.

Which is why the majority of RIB builders use hypalon.

not to have this turn into a discussion on Hypalon - but I would prefer Hypalon.
There's some nice Bombard boats for sale in France to, but I read some PVC horror stories and I'm a bit scared of it.

The boat is always outsite here, covered but still outdoor all year (garden next to the house)

If someone has a suggestion for a small boat that can seat 4 people and it MUST go on a 1400kg trailer (fully loaded), then please send it to me.

Bombard are absolutely not in the same league. You cannot compare them to XS. They are shallow hulled, lightly built "blue water" type boats. They are not made for navigating any distance in rough seas. They used to build good sibs though.

my wife does not like the concept of jockey seats (yet). She more likes a sundeck and lots of storage space (and a wide stable boat)

we don't go out on the sea right now, and I would guess that a 6+ meter bombard would do to. (I'd prefer an Osprey but my $ don't agree)

difficult choices. Humber looks quite nice to, and more affordable.
Let me do some more homework on that one.

What exactly do you want to use it for? If you're going out on lakes with the family then a Valient might be a better idea. Their not tough work boats but the're more suited to family pottering around. Not all boats are made to do the same things. When you start looking to the likes of Ribcraft it's because you need a tough boat IMO.

what will it be used for... a very difficult question.

Right now, going out on the lakes (Italy, France) and bigger rivers in the Netherlands. Eventually Croatie on the sea.

I never had the guts to go on the nothsea before., I lack the right boat and experience.
We have 2 kids (10 and 8 y). I do want a boat that can seat them safely.

Therefore, I was looking at the jockey seats. The kids love waves and splashes, tight turns etc. Therefore I think a rib would be best to.

I have been looking at the Bombard SB640, priced here (new) around 26000 euro with trailer and 115pk engine. The weight is an issue, I won't have the big car I have today to pull it all.

A 6m Solent (http://www.solentribs.com/) might suit you. They are well geared to family usage, the hull is a performance one which will go quick with less horse power and it's a good sea going boat if you decide to take it to the North Sea. A good all round family thrills/cruising boat. The major disadvantage is that it's not that stable at rest.

I have looked at the Solent before, there's a reseller in France.
However I found then rather expensive - prices there ranged from 27000 euro and up for second hand (demo) crafts.
