175 hp 216kg (lightest version)
150 hp 206kg (lightest version)

There are the XS pro, sea pro and jet versions but I doubt any of us will be after them...

Our 175hp 2S 2.5L V6 optimax is 196kg.

Just ordered the 200hp.[emoji106]

Yes thats the point - there is the Pro XS, the FourStroke and the SeaPro; just wondering which ones people were on about

Unless you’re racing there’s no need for the xs pro. And unless commercial using, there’s no need for the sea pro.

Interestingly the 175 xs pro is a 3.4L V6 but the 200/225 xs pro is a bigger block like the 250/300+, a 4.6L V8. Same engine with another bank of cylinders.

The 175/200/225 normal 4S are all the 3.4L V6.

The sea pro however has 3.4L for 175/200 but 4.6 for the 225 upwards.

All good fun to mix it up.

If it was me, I'd take a serious look at the 150hp Merc. But Ribcraft are Suzuki main dealers & offer very attractive package prices. That's why I said if pushed, go for the 150 Suzuki. As Xk59D re-iterates wot I said, the 140 is a lazy engine, but I suspect it may be pushed by RC.

Forget the 175, it isn't worth the cost difference nor going over the normal max HP rating, although ribcraft will adapt to 175 if you really want but I have spent many hours beside a 6.5m boat with the normal 150 fourstroke and it is PLENTY, will hit 42 knots and in a hurry so has tons of grunt.

I have quotes for a 225 mercury v6 and a 250 v8 here for a re-engine, they told me the 175 and 200 price too and they are minimum 4k more than you can buy a 150 for if shopping about...not sure about new build ofcourse.

If they offer a much better deal on a zuke 150 then I wouldn't be totally adverse to that but ideally I would have the mercury too.

as Xk59D says. it depends how and where you are going to use the boat if just normal ribbing the 150 is the job

Trust me.......go for the 150hp Mercury on the 585.

Nice shot, looks well balanced too.

A friend of mine is considering ordering a 585 as he has a v low hours 115 optimax himself.

Would that be way underpowered for family cruising?

I spoke to Ribcraft recently about re-hulling my boat and they had no concerns about a 115hp on a 585. If I recall it was expected to push highish 36+kts.

Incidentally, a 585, dual console, 4 jockeys, single A frame and not a lot else on it was around £17k. Osprey recommended a 5.8 or 6.2 for that engine but expected 34-35kts. Vipers also both around the £17k mark, give or take. I ended up buying a Humber 5.8, same configuration for about £13k instead. Won't be quite the finish of an RC I'm sure but fitting it out myself so can polish the edges and I have no concerns about the handling. No idea what speed it will make as it isn't ready yet but Humber estimated at 40+kts. If its over 35kts I'll be happy.

Can't speak for the 150 Merc but the 115 2.1l is a great engine.

I have RC 585 and have never regretted putting the new Merc 150 on her great engine and makes a great combo[emoji106]

Thanks for that post Phil ,that to me is very helpful and the sort of ballpark ideas i would expect to get on a forum ,thankyou again , nb does that need to be long shaft outboard or xl ,or maybe the built to order man will arrive to tell me it can be either

Agreed, cheers, for the post, he’ll be happy to know and is out with two young boys in fair weather, so be more than happy with that I imagine.

Will be interesting to see our 200hp on the 6.3. I honestly suspect it’ll be v similar to our 175ho opti. Need to time some hole shot and top end with various weights I suppose, but Work and family could restrict.
