Ribcraft 4.8 Anchors

Hi all,

As above really, just wondering what would be the best anchor to get for my 4.8 to fit in the locker. Also what type would be best for mainly sandy bottom around south devon.

Many thanks in advance.

Simon

2kg bruce type (preferable stainless) - more than adequate - work for me

go with 1 kilo for every metre of boat..
5 kilo for yours to be safe - bruce type/danforth
don't skimp on the chain !

I disagree, a 5kg anchor is excessive.

I agree, it is the chain that does the work.

I disagree. a <5kg poor design anchor (grapnel) will not be sufficient.

Tut. I was going to type "so long as the anchor chosen is well proven for the useage, duration and ground types" but since no one had mentioned lunch hooks as yet I felt it was not needed.

For lunch stops we use a 2kg Danforth which fits into the front locker easily.

For more secure overnight mooring we use a 5kg Delta (copy) which just about fits into the front locker together with the above 2kg Danforth !

Both with 5m of 10mm chain.

Around Salcombe, I suspect that the smaller anchor would be fine, but we went for the heavier addition "just in case".

The 4.8 anchor locker is snug to say the least. I'm using a 6kg grapnel anchor, 3m of chain and 50ft of rope. This is for temporary lunch-stop mooring only.

2 kg danforth is ideal, 5 kg is bloody excessive
that what ribcraft would supply you as a standard fit

Thanks all for the replies, it is a small locker but looks like a Danforth is the way to go. What diameter chain should a go for with a 2kg Danforth. Sorry for all the questions but just want to get it right!!

I would have thought 6 to 8 mm would work
It does all the work - so don't skimp on the amount.
