Rib Virgin buys Rubber!!!

Well we've gone and done it now - we've bought a rib. The Renegade 6500 in all her glory. We've been out all day on her and I think it is a Love thing...

Firstly I would like to thank everybody for their ideas, feedback and comments from my last thread. It all came in handy.

Need some advice - the trailer has been used to launch the boat but fundamentally hasn't been used off the boat yard for two years. The bearings are probably shot so we can't pick her up until the bearings are done. Does anybody know of a good trailer person who can replace the bearings so that we can tow her 100 miles (or so) from the Weymouth area?

The rest of the trailer looks pretty sound - it is a two wheel not four wheel - don't know if this makes a difference.

There will be other posts with other questions about 'how to' along the way, but the first job is to get her home.

Nice!

Do the brakes work on the trailer as well? If it hasn't been out of the yard for a while the shoes and hitch may be seized too.

Good plan. I think it might need some new wheels as well as these are a little rusty.

Can you believe it - took the camera and forgot to take any pickies. However, you can still see pickies of here on the advert http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/F144551/.

She looks very clean - no patches. The tubes do have a patch where they look slightly warn - i.e. blue tubes but you can just see light coloured area - almost bald - does this make any sense. You can just see this on the first picture in the advert, in the bow section nearest you.

Cruising area will mostly be in Chichester Harbour. After recommendations on the forum, we've gone and checked out Northney Launch - very nice - so will launch from there.

However, hoping to join the various crews for the priory bay picnic, also have a party on the Isle of Wight and now planning to use the rib to get over there - although slightly worried about the reception in and around the folly - is it easy to get to shore from there?

Dont' be, there is a pontoon on the Folly side you can berth and some pontoons over the other side of the river with the Harbour launch used as water taxi to reach the other side.

Now where's them pictures of the RIB?

Those "light" areas near the bow look like oxidisation from the sun. Get some toluene and give it a good rub and it will come right off. Keep turning or using a new rag so you are not spreading the muck around. I have spent two days doing the same to mine and I am only half done, but mine is a lot worse than yours.

If you are scared to use Toluene or can't get it use the diluted traffic film remover from Machine Mart. It works very well with a soft brush. Removes oxidisation a treat!!!

Thanks for this - you guys never stop amazing me with your knowledge. I'm also going to get a cover so when I have finished - I don't have to keep doing it!!!
