One thing that boat could do with is a windscreen - easy to make - do a search on here for it. If the boat and engine is in good nick I would be tempted - don't forget to haggle big style - cash waved under the nose usually does the trick!!!

Perhaps I need to bring you along to haggle!!! Just received some more pickies about the Renegade 6.5m. It is a Porters Renegade (well it says Porters on a great big sticker on the tube).

The original stickers were larger. Not sure when they changed to smaller ones.

Experts is it

All you might learn from us lot is how not to do things

Have a look at the Priory Bay Picnic Cruise (not far & ideal for the family!).

Some of us will stay over on the IOW so bring the camping gear!

I know this will sound like a daft question, but how do you fit all the camping gear in (with people). When we go camping, the car is full to the brim - we like camping in comfort - inflatable beds, big tent, bbq, etc. Do you just chuck it all in, chuck a tarpuline over the top and whizz off into the sunset - sounds great I just didn't think we would be able to do that.

When I camp anywhere like that I use cheap gear- £10 tents and lilos etc so if it gets trashed then it doesn't matter.

BBQ's and so on are easier if you buy disposable.

All the good gear is kept for proper campsites.

Isn't there a roof-box or trailer available for the rib! Perhaps I could organise for a DHL delivery of stuff!

Only kidding - good idea.

Yeh, so when you take on a wave and lose off Yarmouth you don't worry about water damage

Yep. Agree with Nos. You need to do the one-star camping effort and squeeze stuff into lockers/fasten on deck.

However Pete 7 has a lethal briefcase that can make tea, wake people up at seven o clock and carry spare underwear for those livelier trips. It may well be For Hire

I like the tea bit, but I draw the line at wearing Pete's underware

I don't know Pete but I think I would draw the line at that although the first cup of tea in the morning is the most important!!!

Having been a member of this website for all of two days, is there an area where all the fab articles and things are stored, i.e. Nos's Beginner Guide and the most FAQ by numbnuts like me.

I don't know things like:-

What you need to buy with your first RIB?
What to look out for?
What documents you need if going abroad (I found out loads on the Alderney Thread - if we had a boat and didn't have other commitments I really fancy that - maybe next year)?
Do you need a VHF Licence etc?

Could be really useful?

VHF Licence

Sarah, with regards to the VHF licence I would say its a definate and essential if you may be doing some rescue boat work.

The easy way is to do it is a home study course, I recently did the course that www.oceantraining.com do If there are two of you then it works out very competitive as you only pay for one set of course CDs.

Hi Chris

This is great thankyou. I was looking at the RYA website last night and started to loose the will to live. I could find the course and then trying to find a center that were actually running the course. AGGGGghhhh

The point of my comment though was whether there is a central resource database with all this lovely information in it.

The Archive

Hi Sarah and welcome to Ribnet.

There is a small archive of FAQs here which should answer some of your questions. Regarding equipment needed on a RIB, we have a list of what we carry on our website: www.blue-ice.me.uk although what you actually NEED is dependent on factors such as your cruising ground and preferences. HTH
