Alex
I have been mucking around with sony Vegas studio, its very good.
Also have been using the mp4 option on my Canon camera which gives a reasonably high quality video.
Ther is also a HD sanyo cam for sale now which looks fantastic!

Call me a retrogrouch, but if I want to hear music, I'll throw a CD in the player or turn on the radio. When I click on a RIB video, I want to hear the engine screaming and the hull bashing along the chop, not someone else's musical preferences! I end up turning the sound right down on 98% of the RIB videos I see when music is dubbed in.

Your a retrogrouch!

I find you don't often get to hear the sound of the engines screaming or the hull on the chop because of the wind noise. I'd much prefer to listen to a decent backing track than the rustling sound of the wind.

I rip the video from the camera at DV quality whatever that is - each tape equates to around 13gig of data stored on the hdd. I have tried long play, but there is significant loss in quality
If you rip it in DV quality, edit in DV quality, and then export in DV quality, you can play it back in the DVD player, and it looks superb - compressing things down will always loose some quality along the line.

Tony... was Sony Vegas studio what was shown on the gadget show the other night?... iirc it came out pretty good. I'm sticking with Pinnacle for now though cos it does all I need.

Here ya go, if you want engine noise in the background, try this one - http://videos.ribseadrive.co.uk/crui...6-06_large.wmv

Music with engine noise there too

I have a single mic, which records to the left hand channel, and that stays in the dry back with the cam so doesn't get affected by the wind etc... *however* when there is no music you have to ultra careful with what's said on board, or you could end up bleeping out a fair bit

And me. Some of the music becomes quite annoying. Maybe film makers can start to fade it in and out so we can at least here some of the engine noise.

Err... did that on the "Hung Up" vid http://www.richardbateson.com/videos/hung_up.html
It only worked because I was standing next to the engine - most of the time filming gets a backing track of wind noise which is just annoying.

Great song. maybe all the small things would be a good idea for this new vid.

Agree about the engine noises - often see it on TV - especially when you are watching something like drag racing or whatever they just talk over the top of it !!!

Your videos are really good, when you've got the camcorder recording how do you stop the slamming of the boat effect the tape. I quickly put this together from the video off Bens bullet cam on the Yarmouth Cruise. Didn't take much time over the music choice! It was nearly the Birdy song but it wasn't long enough!

Hi Gray,
I am thinking about buying a bullet cam. Archos make one which fits into my Archos AV500. When you recorded this footage was it onto tape or a hdd based device?
