RIB Raid in NI on Saturday

Anyone on here doing it?

International Ribraid Portpatrick, Dee, Donaghadee, Bangor Northern Ireland International Rib raid - Scotland and Isle of Man - Dee Ribraid | Ribraid

If I can get my boat sorted on time thinking about doing it but its a wee one so worried about being left behind by the big boy boats! Any wee boats thinking about it?

Just did the Portpatrick run and it was great fun. Good event ran by nice people. Went in mates boat in the end as its bigger and the sea was a wee bit lumpy.

Tomkat

Given the conditions do you think you could have done it in a wee rib?

Definitely, there was a Humber 4.8mish destroyer and he was fine. Would have been slower than the rest though, the big boats went over at about 30 knots (I was apassenger in a 6m destroyer) and it was a slam fest as a passenger - on the way back we went at 15 knots which was very much more comfortable. My engine let me down the week before and I was nervous of that and did not want to hold anyone back.

If I still have the RIB next year I think I will do it as the engine has been flawless since!

Saw a shark breeching just of the Copelands on the way back which was pretty cool!

To be honest it was something to tick off rather than fun! An 18 mile crossing is a long way, when in the middle the shore looks pretty far away to me. I think any note change in my Engine would get my heart rate up!

As long as you follow the RNLI's 6 top tips you should be OK and if the need ever arose you have an All Weather Lifeboat at either end

I would have no hesitation in doing it with another boat on a good day.
