RIB outing to watch the J classes in July?

I am rounding up some of the HISC RIB owners to have a social outing in July to go and watch the J Class Regatta.
J Class Regatta - Solent 2012

Could be an interesting day out?

I will 100% defo be up for that. I went to one a number of years ago, so rough I couldnt take any photos but those boats are just awesome.

If you posted this on the Upcoming RIB cruises forum I think you would get a large group together. The guys round will flog across to the IOW for Nachos and a pint at the drop of a hat, so something like this sould be a real draw!

Would you like me to try and get an interested group together from Poole?

We have already got some work over these days. We hear it could be mad on the water, if you were out on the Clipper Race Start then similar or busier than that. Lets hope the waterskier stays away this time!

Here is some safety info for the Solent J class races 18-21st July
J Class Regatta - Solent 2012

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
GUIDANCE FOR SPECTATOR
BOATS & RIBS
1.
You can closely follow the fleet but please
JOIN any J class yacht from behind or to
one side - but not forward of the beam.
2.
Please watch for signals from the yacht’s
Navigator who may ask you to clear away
for an impending manoeuvre
3.
Each yacht is followed by a dedicated
SAFETY RIB flying a blue JCA Flag. Please
follow any safety instructions they may
give you.
4.
Please be aware of other J Class yachts -
which may be behind you, or closing fast at
an angle.
5.
Please be aware of and respect all other
spectator boats around you.
6.
We recommend that lifejackets are worn byu
all spectators, especially as each stern wave
can be very large. © J Class Association J Class Yachts : The Official Website of the J Class Association

New safety info for Friday/Saturday

Note: CHANNEL 06... | Facebook

AND a note on their pages
A very large fleet of spectators was assembled to watch this race and almost all respected the requirement for sea room for the yachts to tack and gybe, but a few larger powerboats did get in the way of the race yachts and put the race in jeopardy.

They are using Facebook as a medium to get info out http://www.facebook.com/pages/Offici...10432005736016

and if you scrool down on this link there is some more info- http://www.jclasssolentregatta.com/S...ation-Pack.pdf

with the number of Yachts and boats out there are a lot of large confusing waves, very similar to The Clipper Race when they departed last year

Hi, do you have any idea what sort of time are they likely to be rounding the needles on Saturday with a 10:40 start if there is a half way decent wind?

Could be anytime from about 1.30 onwards the speed they travel at. I'd be there from 1pm to make sure you don't miss them. Use shipfinder on your phone to keep track of them.

We took quite a few pictures yesterday but thought that this picture gave a pretty good idea of the scale of these boats. Additionally, the crew shot reminds us that racing is actually about people and not boats......

Great pictures and thanks for posting. I was fully intending to go but had some family issues crop up that required my attention!

Video from J class Guinea Cup race

This shows the J class yachts in The Solent race and also shows the way the sea state was kicked up. Some interesting images of some boaters with no safety equipment

Watched them Friday and Saturday, fantastic sight! Heres a pic of Lionheart rounding the Nab Tower, gives an idea of how tall these ships are, when you consider the Nab is around 9 stories tall and that is only 2 thirds the height of the mast!

I have posted some of my other pics up on:
Zenfolio | Chris Bashall Rokraider Images

Shot video as well, but haven't had time to edit that yet.

Excellent quality pic's n vid's, they really show the team work involved in getting those fine vessels going. I was having a crack at filming Gipsy Moth the other day which many will know for its one man crew abilities, first time I've seen her up close and personal, as she was in the lock with us, but I think i'm gonna have to upgrade to hd. seeing those shots.

Great to see other images on National 12s. Spent some twenty years racing them around the UK, so good to see such a large fleet at HISC
