Crikey there's hundreds of threads which all pretty much seem to come up with the same names over and over.

Personally I've been with Porthcawl (and their internet subsidiary which is called something like insurance-4-boats.com (although I might have it wrong)) throughout and they seem to be competitive and efficient. Never had to claim but others report positive experiences.

CraftInsure and Euromarine also get mentioned quite a bit. Noble marine may also be worth a try (I used to use them for sailing dinghies and had no issues) - and they are trade members here.

Mardon towergate. Hit something with the drive a few years back. They settled on a new drive in 2 weeks

I use Noble Marine, been with them for years on other boats and have always been excellent.

I used Towergate once for a Hobie Cat they were terrible, ripped me off and have no idea about customer service.

I'm with Haven on my first policy, my Dads boat has been insured with them for years. I found them very helpful on the phone and competitively priced when compared to the internet searches I did.

Thankfully as yet I haven't had test them out for a claim (I don't think my Dad has either).

Yes the terms are crucial as they vary betwen insurers so some include/exclude stuff that may be crucial to you like speed, age of users, craft age, time left moored etc. I like the online outfits like Craftinsure where you can download a sample policy to see the small print before deciding rather than rely on a telephone sales advisor telling you what they think are the important bits.
