No idea, but sounds a great place for ribbing. Don't forget your ICC

Hi

No idea, but if my past experiences on the Red Sea coasts are anything to go by, I'd guess that having someone local with you at all times would be a big help - independent travel was not encouraged. Officials tended to be unhelpful if confronted with something new, unusual or not covered by "The Rules". Water Traffic is a bit of a free for all ;-)

Err Folk, Cairo is a long way from the Red Sea, took us 5 hours in a coach complete with armed escort. The med is slightly closer at 90 kms to Alexander and much more pleasant.

The Nile at Cairo looks like a wide slow moving river with reed beds thats full of polution from the city. There are large boats that wouldn't look out of place in a Hercule Poirot plot, but I wouldn't want to get to close to the water. Stick to the Pyramids and the Museum but only drink from cans in the museum cafe

Pete

Yes, I remember where the Red Sea is in relation to Cairo. I remember the armed guards everywhere too. I even seem to recall a busload of unfortunate tourists getting shot to pieces on a Nile tour - albeit well south of Cairo. Still, it's not so long since people were worried about travelling here for (somewhat) similar reasons, so perhaps I am alarmist...
