Like you we don't have a season - and our boats are always in commission for 12 months of the year.

However, there is always a defining moment that feels like the first cruise of a new 'season'

What I can never understand is people who completely store and 'winterise' their RIBS, often as early as October, and dont see them again until April time. Often these are 8 and 9 metre beasts that - in theory - should be able to cope with any weather - and often have the creature comforts that small RIBs dont have.

We have also found that some of the winter days spent on the water are amongst the best.

Guess some people are just more adventerous than others ...
we cant all take our Quicksilvers OVER the harbour wall in a storm ..........

Seasoned...

With my small inflatable I sort of have a season.
Most often I use it just for diving as most of the dive sites reachable from land are over crowded in the summer (especially those in tidal waters with a small "window" of slack tide).

I dive in snow, under ice, rain...doesn't matter, but the Zodiac has all the comfort of a shopping trolly (not to speak of the fact that I get soaking wet sitting on the tube!) so I tend to leave it until the sun comes out again.

I am sure that when I have the new RIB it will be in the water year round!

The Season

Hi Splishsplash

Talking of 'the season' you see I am a real expert because I have been boating for almost 2 years now! So please don't take much notice of anything I give my opinion on.

My season revolves around how often I can get up to our house in Scotland. Fortunately we are located in a position where we are able to find some sort of sheltered water whichever way the wind is blowing. All I have to do is persuade someone to come out in the boat with me.

Cheers

Keith (a man for all seasons) Hart

PS please note the subtle literary reference.

Invitation...

Easy for you to say!
You are welcome next winter to sit on my tube...err...sit next to me on the tube in some nice typical wintery conditions on the north sea
Believe me, after that you will reconsider going into hibernation 'till spring!

Fortunately for us we have a place called the Solent - where, so long as you wrap up warm, you can have some great days on the water al year round.

(Actually, not wishing o upset anyone, there are many other places - all along the South Coast in fact, parts of Wales etc where you can do the same thing)

Actually I like............

the North Sea during winter !! Or at least the Essex/Suffolk coastal bits of it. Bright crisp days, no-one around, wrap up warm, brilliant!

The Solent? Bit namby pamby if you ask me!

You an call it Namby Pamby if you like - but given the choice of the Solent or somwhere like Hull / Grimsby / Cleethorpes etc into the North Sea I know what I would choose

(see you in Cleethorpes .......(not))

Graeme,

I wonder how the North Sea lads would cope with the "Solent Chop" in a WAT, top of springs, F6
