Looks like one of the beach pics was taken on the beach between Weston and uphill, but the other from Brean is that right?

Just google earthed it . Looks great . Haven't tried a beech launch yet , looks like a good place to learn .

Skate was off sand bank fished of the ruins Brean down end also. Nice congers

Sorry probably an incredibly thick question (and I'm maybe being lazy for not googling for the answer) but Brean is a very gently sloping sandy beach isn't it, so how do you launch? On my rib the water has to be at the top of the tyres on the trailer before I can push it off at Baiter slip in Poole which is very shallow, so I have to unhitch and push the trailer out quite a way, tricky enough on concrete, but I cant imagine on sand..? Then I see you've beached the boat and let the tide drop for recovery, do you just winch it straight off the sand and onto the trailer? Sorry if these are really stupid questions!

In similar situations, I have launched on the outgoing tide with just enough water left to put the motor down, then recover on the incoming tide. This is okay if you dont mind spending 6 hours + at sea. My local slipway is in a drying harbour, so I do it frequently.

I have seen some recover from the mud using swing beam roller trailers, but it appears to put a lot of strain on the hull when the boat is hanging in the air.

Not sure I follow you , if the beach is shallow what difference does it make where the tide is . I'll take the helm on daft questions for a bit .

Im not the worlds most experienced, so I might be missing something obvious too! The tide on that coast has a 10-15 metre range, so it is deep enough to float off the trailer when the tide is at a certain level.

Sorry, forgot to add...

The OP mentined parking on the beach, so I guess it is also possible to drive beyond the water's edge, as long as it is still on the hard sand.

I would have thought that if the beach has a consistent fall and a shallow one at that , it wouldn't make any difference where the tide is . I have very limited experience but when we launched from the slip at warsash we could only do it with the trailer attached at low tide because the slipway is steeper then . At high tide we had to un hook the trailer and attach a rope . We had to bring it in on high tide because of the weather was turning shit quickly . We would not have known what to do without the really helpful harbour staff , who incidentally got very wet on our behalf !!
Came home and ordered some waders .

I am interested to know how nugent launched and recovered . He probably asleep now dreaming of bigger fish .

Its no different to any other gentle sloping beach or harbour. Once the tide reaches its maximum extent, it will fill until it reaches a depth that is suitable for launching.

Here's an easier option for launching on shallow beaches at low tide; it's what we use when the harbour dries out

If you are ever in west Dorset/east Devon, and want some experience launching at a different location, let me know - I would be happy to help.

Righto. Been launching here 15 years or more with some huge craft in the past,,,

I simply drive down to end of beach stakes,, never further its well muddy drop boat on sand 2.5 hrs before high tide,
Return car and trailer to top of beach. Prepare my self talk crap 15/20 minutes ,, hey presto water is under my boat, floods in super fast here ,

I go,out and do my thing returning, 2 hrs after high tide this is the latest or its to muddy to recover,, Drop boat at waters edge walk to car strip mess talk crap. 20 mins later boats back on terra firmer, with roller trailers it loads on dead easy, and it's on sand. So will not scratch your hull, nor have i ever caused any damage to my hulls fully laden with fuel kit etc

Or you can go out with tide depends how you work it and return 6 8 or 12 hrs later. You choice. Lundy island minehead watchet Weston super mare cardiff Ifracombe and many more ,, i. access al these places from this location

Beach is 9am to 4pm oct to April
Then 8am to 8pm April to oct

I launch my osprey 6mtr also a destroyer behind a little citroen no hassle at all
