RIB Cruising in Sydney

I am planning to do some boating while on holiday in Sydney but Edward who is a member of this Forum thought that in NSW they would not recognise UK Qualifications ie; Powerboat level 2 or the International Certificate for Operator of Pleasure Craft. I have emailed the Maritime agency in New South Wales Australia and this is their response:

Dear Graham,

Temporary recognition of overseas licence exists and a NSW licence in not required.

Note you are required to comply with NSW boating laws while boating in this State. That includes carrying your licence when boating.

The NSW Boating Handbook can be obtained at any NSW Maritime Authority, by mail, or from our website www.maritime.nsw.gov.au

For further information please contact Ms Beverley Bragg (Marine Certification Officer). Beverley can be contacted on 02 95638773, or by email at bragg@maritime.nsw.gov.au.

Peter Millson

Hi Graham

I am off to Australia next week for about a month and the idea of taking a RIB around Sydney harbour sounds great. Did you find anyone willing to rent them out???

I had a similar problem a couple of yeras ago owhen I wanted to hire a boat fora couple of days to go up the Nossa River in NSW. I told them to have a look at my website then everything was OK. Mind you it was a silly thing for them to do seeing I hit the only rock in the river and bent the prop! Alan P

Al, perhaps you ought to do a Level 2 course sometime? Perhaps there is more to boating than trial and error!

Thats very forward thinking of the Waterways Dept... particularly when they don't accept them if you're a resident!!!

Its a balmy 28 degrees here right now and this morning there was a large pod of dolphins in the water as I got the jetcat into work...

Its a tough life!!

Ah, you're making us all jealous!

Are you saying that you have an ICC and because you're resident it doesn't recognise them? Does Australia have its own version? It makes rather a mockery of the fact it is called an 'International Certificate of Competence'!
