The RYA Safety Boat course has a bit on lee shore recovery.

I once went on that course. At the Mount Batten Centre.

People often underestimate the force of water in motion. I used to survey a shoreline in Clare, facing onto the Atlantic. There were blocks of stone the size of Transit vans up on the high tide line. The first season I used them as markers for my surveys - mistake, next spring they had moved....

Not good. Glad everyone was okay. They were very lucky none of them were pinned down under the boat... and for those filming - there seems like an apparent lack of urgency.

When they foul their prop early on - the person on the bow rope doesn't help the situation by hauling away. Pretty sure it would have turned out the same way, that surf swamped them once.

Aye .. its constant motion.. fook me.. its repetition and power is unbelievable .. in a few weeks Ive seen hundreds of tonnes of sand and rocks shift .. and thats in my short life time ,, then I look at some of the boulders on the coast line .. and wonder how and when they got moved ?

What a bloody mess !! A good lesson in what happens when things go 'Pete Tong', simple act of fouling a rope with the prop in heavy seas near rocks !!! I think that they're lucky that nobody got badly injured but I hope the owner had some decent insurance as it looks like a decent project...

Yes indeed!
So far I've had two go down, both in my absence, first was a 14' CJR sank right by the pontoon, my fault cus I left her stern to seaward in a calm usually sheltered bay, but the wind swung and picked up that night, and the small waves just pilled over the stern, fortunatly it was a drying pontoon so just drove up and recovered next day.
Second was a 23' Wilson flyer, broke her mooring early one morning, fortunatly a friend spotted it, but had no way of saving it so he swam out and sank it on the spot, good job really otherwise she would have broke up on the rocks she was heading for, once again I was able to drive to recover.
On both occations I took my outboards to my mech friend, who rebuilt to perfect working order, he did warn me if I was to leave my boat unattended, to disconnect engine batt supply as this would speed up corrosion when submerged.

So my message to others is; A wreck is not always necessarily Wrecked. until its inaccessible that is.

Bit like me really.

I imagine the aluminium on the Saddle broke before the bols did, But an iteresting project for someone! I think I would have found a jetskier to have done that for me, Or swam it in.
