Better view:

Seriously - they were trying to recover/salvage this:

The ragflapper seems to have survived pretty well - bet the RIB didn't. Terwats!

The rescue services & coastguard, had elected to not recover the yacht, due to the conditions and the fact it was beached and "safe"

Why not just leave it. They'd never have towed it off when completely grounded.

In willk's 2nd vid, it says they were trying to get a line to a trawler to pull it off.

Nuts.

Total balls up. If they had to go in there, which they didn't, it was futile, Keep it nose to sea at all costs. The second she turned beam on, it was all over.

Rnli training with the Atlantic 21 & 75 was that when deploying the Anchor & veering in onto a lee shore ,
The anchor is to be dropped outside the surf line
one engine was to be stopped & tilted up out of the way ,
with the other engine reversing and stretching the nylon anchor line that way if it clobbers a rock or theres engine failure the stretch of the nylon anchor line ( up to 50% stretch before parting )will pull the boat back out to sea past the surf line with the other tilted engine used for back up .
Can't beat a twin set up .

Now that's cool! And why we call them rather than diving in ourselves! (Unless life in danger and calculated risk etc)
