The engine looks good due to the prep work... Nothing to do with Biff's skills with a paint gun..

Steve, I have the exact same on my boat. It's a simple bulgin bipole plug and socket which I have connected to a cetek battery charger which you can plug and forget.

Put the rib to bed when I get home, plug in the battery charger, job done.

See below for pic of (old) plug and socket. All bright, shiny new ones now.

It's not wired yet and I haven't had a look at it, I assuming it just like a car lighter socket with and external charger with a male plug on it
