Respraying GRP

I've heard it's possible to re-spray GRP/gell coat, what ever you call it!
I was just wondering if it's easy/cheap to do your self, or whether it needs to be done professionally (again, is this pricey?).

I'm actually thinking of having a sculling boat done not a RIB, so wear to the hull isn't really an issue (could the paint chip off though?).

Yeh, I've done it.
Very cheap to do. Important to use good quality materials.
Takes lots and lots of time to get a perfect finish though.
