Resin & catalyst shelf life

Any ideas on shelf life of unmixed sealed resin & catalyst, kept in a frost free industrial unit and also open tins of the same?

Most resins come with a "use by date", but I reckon 6-12 months is about right. Old resin tends to seperate, so a good stir is needed, and really old stuff tends to have lumps in it.

It also depends on what your going to use it for. I certainly wouldn't build a boat with anything out of date, but I do use up old stuff on seat mouldings, trim panels etc. Anything that's not structural, or can be easily replaced.

MEKP (catalyst) goes off as well.

I've noticed recently that the kegs of gel coat I've been buying have a very short shelf life according to the labels, some times as little as 2 months.

How old is your resin, and what you planning to do with it?

If it's in an unopened container, it may still be usable, but not for anything important, or repairs.
