Replacing rubber hull protector

Not sure if that is the right name for it.

In essence I want to remove the old fairly unsubstantial rubber/plastic strip that is glued to the 'V' of my hull and replace it with a more substantial version in advance of taking delivery of my Tetradock later on this year. I figure driving on and off will require a 'chunkier' strip in place.

Any tips on how to do this/where to get them etc? Also how to remove the old one which seems very thoroughly attached (I know not with what!).

I have a gator guard keel shield I've never fitted, I will someday. I think I paid about 180 quid for it for 4m from amazon via USA.

Generally you need to heat up the old one to get it off, most of them are stuck with self adhesive waterproof tape if it is a proper one on there now. If it is a diy job then might be sika or similar and no idea how to get those off.

Edit..in UK and looks like I got a good deal!

There's a product called Keelguard. Not familiar with it myself, but preparation is everything to get a decent bond when applying.

Removing the old one (depends what's been used already) as it could be 3M contact adhesive. Read a few forums suggesting everything from soaking glue residue in WD40 and using heat-gun while scraping with plastic ice scraper. Also came across a product recommended by someone in vehicle livery business who need to remove stubborn adhesives called Big Orange available here: Zep United Kingdom - Catalogue:BIG ORANGE AEROSOL

Good luck, sounds like a sod of a job.

The Keelguard on my boat started to come adrift at the aft end of it, so I cut the loose piece off with a sharp knife.
The residual double sided tape, as mentioned by Xk59D, was a pain.
If you can access a strong power-washer you can "cut" the tape off slowly with the water pressure.

*(centre point lift and a big crane to hold up the boat at eye level made it easier than trying to do it on a trailer)
