Renewing Gel/top coat?

I am in the process of doing up a Jet rib. I am pretty much there with all except the engine, and whilst I am waiting for this to arrive, I have turned my attention to the underside.

There are a few scrapes and gouges which go through the gel coat, and many other scratches in it.

I have filled them with a Gel Coat repairer, but was wondering if it is possible to paint/roller a whole new layer of gel/top coat on?

I think this might be the best option as it would give a better overall consistancy.

Is this possible or is there a better solution?

Thanks
