Biggest issue is corners and non flat edges, when interstrip fails you will end up scraping manually and will realise anything mildly sharp will removed gel coat on corners or un flat surfaces.

I originally had a quote from arc to soda blast it. It was such a reasonable price I wish I had done it.
Sounds like a nightmare, got some interstrip on the way, i know there is only one layer of anti foul on the hull so might not be too bad

Do you need to wax the hull after removing the anti foul, to protect it and seal it again?

Im not sure mate, might have to do something as the original gel coat is a little scratched from when it was sanded down

No, no , no.

Wax won't seal it and will be a detriment if wanting to apply anything else to the hull afterwards. It will be a bugger to remove and nothing sticks to it except barnacles.

Wot e said.

It leaves a hazy finish but that can be polished up, likely you have a keyed surface under the anti foul in any case. For the sake of a few hundred quid its what I would do.

Why would u want to remove copper coat?

I think your chances of stripping CC without significantly stripping the gel is close to zero.

Well I keep the boat in a trailer, and i reckon CC takes a knot or two off the top speed. Also it does not look great. The previous owner had it done as the boat was on a mooring.

CopperCoat is an epoxy based anti fouling that contains copper granules. The claim is the copper stops the barnacles. It's said to be very effective. You simply pressure wash every so often and anything that 'stuck' falls off. But it looks like a greenish diarrhoea!

BucksRibster - I think the jury is out on how much u loose. But I'm guessing short of stripping it and re finishing the gel you ain't getting that 1knot back!
Does the colour go greener over time?
I don't think you will add value stripping it unless you can do an amazing job. While most people trail if someone was looking to moor I'd guess already being CCd does add some value coz it's expensive to get done.

Yes, it does look quite green when it is dry. Goes darker when wet.

I think you are right - it will not be worth trying to get it off. Click image for larger version
