Remote compatability/Searider Console

Double edged thread this one.

Having a knackered Jockey Console on my 5.4 searider, I popped down to Babcocks disposals to see what they had, and being extremely short of space I was sold their last 2 Searider consoles for the usual price of one. Now have 2 HUUUGE consoles sitting in my small uni room (Praying hall staff don't choose today to do an inspection!). Both consoles have full electrics and working (fairly heavy duty) steering. One has a perfect seat, the other the seat vinyl is worn. Am thinking of putting the one I don't want up on eBay. Any ideas what a fair price is? It's the standard 3 man console for a Navy type Searider 5.4m. Actual console is in perfect condition. What sort of money should it go for?

Next question, on one console is a Quicksilver remotes and cables combination. Will these work with my Johnson 70hp VRO, or do I need the actual control box and cables? I have seen quicksilver remotes on Mariner and Mercury engines before, but not on Johnsons.

Cheers!

On the wiring it also has a circular 8 pin connector, at the "engine end" of the remote cables. Presumeably this does the ignition and PTT, is this also generic or does it vary from engine to engine?

Jimbo, stick an advert on Ribnet, might help someone who is after a console. I asked £60 for my Pacific one and the buyer seemed happy with that.

Lee or Mark at Fairweather marine should be able to answer your query on the control box electrics and may have a second hand Johnson control box. Pepe boat yard Hayling Island also have an ISO container full of engine bits so you might be in luck. If the Quicksilver wont fit again selling it might help someone on here.

Think that's the plan I'll go for. I'll try and get some johnson remotes (Sent you a pm lurcher), keep the cables on one console, and sell the other console with steering, electrics, remote cables and 2 rather shagged quicksilver remotes on eBay. Anything about about £50 means that my deal from Babcocks was worth it!

Just had my room inspected by halls supervisers: "What the hell are those things, and what are they doing in your room???"

"Er, mechanical engineering project, need them for my course."

"Oh. Ok then. Remove them after a month."

"Thankyou!"

Oh so gullible...

Never mess with the awesome power of the university pro-vice chancellor! Invoke his name or domain, and watch seemingly important people crumble to insignificant beings around you....

Ok, got a little carried away there, but I did get away with having 2 huge consoles in my room!
