Re-sizing RIB

Hi all. I’m thinking of buying a 7m rib that needs retubing. I will be using it in Greece primarily, where they are introducing a cruising tax for all boats 7m and over.

If I retube it and manage to make it a few cm shorter, does anyone know if the tax is based on the actual size of the boat or the manufacturer specifications?

Thanks!

I'd suggest you need to find out how it is actually measured. There is no one standard on how ribs are marketed - so one brand may measure the front of the tube to the back of the transom (I think that's how "race" classes were measured), but another might measure to the back of the sponson (to make it sound bigger!).

Good call. The tax is levied based on LOA, so I will measure the rib LOA but I suspect it will be too far over 7m when including the outdrive. Will search fro a 6.5m.

I'd assume its LOA with the leg down. normally the tubes extend beyond the leg.
