Trimix - you have overengineered your anchor solution. You'll NEVER lift that off the seabed unless as someone said, you have a windlass.

I reckon that a 10kg and 10m chain is more holding than that boat will EVER need, never mind need in water you'd dive in. Consider buying a 5-7.5kg Bruce and some chain and use this for "sheltered" anchoring - keep the biggie for emergencies.

IIWY, I'd try lifting your twinset 20 meters by rope while leaning out a window. 'Cos that's what it would be like lifting the rig you describe.

Thinking about lifting that up does make me think of Popeye !

Actually, thinking about it I got some numbers from a website for sailing - of course they are going to need much heavier gear as they have more boat in the wind.

& you'll still know when you've pulled that up. Last thing you want to be doing after a dive is busting your nuts pulling up a bloody great anchor. We never leave the boat un-attended BTW when we're diving, we always have a cox & never anchor. I think I've used my anchor probably 1/2 a dozen times in 5 years.

We will also be using the boat to cruise a bit and I intend to spend the night on it a few times - once its in Corsica, so Id like the security.

Dive wise, at least we dont have tides to worry about, and the spots we will use are sheltered bays. There are some more adventurous sites we plan to do, but they will be done with someone on the boat and not anchored.

For the dives where its just me and my wife, its more likely to be 20-30 sheltered coves, not current, no waves, no tides. The guys we normally dive with out there have about 5m of chain and a pathetic anchor which they normally wedge in a crack in the rock when we are down on the dive. Then the last one up up wedges it. Very French style

To be fair there is little to no chance of the boat moving, no other boat traffic and in the last 8 years of diving there Im yet to see a wave.

I only have a baby 6.0m and do similar when in Paxos - leaving her anchored whilst we go off diving. I can tell you, this really focusses you on underwater navigation skills

. The first year I did it i spent half my dives worrying if she would still be there when I came back !
Most of the locations I anchor in are in sheltered bays or atop rocky pinnacles - one of which has some tricky currents.
I only have a 5kg folding grapple ( less than ideal I know), with 6 m of chain and andwith a good length of warp out, she never moves. The chain is as everyone points out, the key. I do where unsure of the current, wedge the anchor into a convenient crevice if possible, and then liberate on my return.
I use uncalibrated (no windlass) stainless chain - clean, rust free & definitely worth it for your very beautiful new toy.
I dont have a roller fairlead but do have on on the transom so use this to retrieve the anchor as opposed to pulling up over the bows - really saves on scoring the rubbing strake and tubes
Do take time to see how the RIB settles at anchor before jumping in - if only for peace of mind

Depends on the site, but I dive off a dead (unattended, anchored) boat probably 75% of my dives. 15-20% I dive off an anchored but attended boat (if we get swept away or lost they pull the anchor and come get us). 5% of our diving actually requires a live unanchored boat.

£5.98 its a good job you only go out 1 once a year cos that's all it will last.

I have both 1 and 2kg on mine, if you are going to leave the boat anchored the go with the 2 kg, having said that the 1 kg has never let me down!
