Priory bay, Isle of wight

Went to anchor off Priory Bay, and very officious security guard told me off, and asked me to move off, as private event going on. Explained I was not on their land - but he was very difficult.
Any one else experienced similar, or know if they have stopped people using the beach ?

Can only suggest no one stays/eats/or drinks there - I won't be.

Wiki states it to be a private beach so I guess they can ask you to go. The same as Osborne Bay which is the same. I think that Osborne Bay is now protected due to the sea grass, no anchoring off within certain metres of the shore.

I guess I was 70-80 metres off the beach in about 7 ft of water.
I got the impression they think they own all the way to Portsmouth !

When I haven't got the kids on board I was planning on seeing what happens - but wondering if it is today only, or now the standard procedure at Priory Bay.

Next time tell him to sling his hook- they can't enforce anything below the high tide mark.

Yep!!...Me and my Lads had a "few words exchanged" with two Pratts on so called "Private" beach west of Dartmouth last season

Given the choice of cruising in crowded waters with angsty locals or in the deserted north where anyone you meet seems genuinely pleased to have spotted another living sole I know where I'd rather be!

Was this today?

Was there about half 3 this afternoon and there were loads of RHIBs and hard boats there moored up.

Did see a small event on the beach but no one seemed to be giving them any bother.

Was this morning, about 11.00
Someone arrived by large chopper, appeared on the beach, with horses, and lots of security operatives, keeping people off the beach.
Said chopper disappeared about an hour later.
We had gone to play in donut by this time.

Never underestimate the power of an 'islander'.

I heard a few have six toes.....so may well have also developed a capacity to shout really loud or even swim faster than a fish.!!

Sounds like somebody turned up that was either famous or had a lot of money and employed a load of people to shout 'git oorf ma land'

I've not had any problems.
