Pressures?

This should be one I know the answer to having grown up around RIBs and SIBs, but it’s not something I’ve ever really considered.

I’ve always pumped up the tubes of my boats to whatever pressure feels ‘right’, based on what my Father taught me.

However, having recently been involved with the Smaller Nashers Bombard 380, and the Bravo pump I purchased to go with it, I’ve had to think about tube pressures.

Question is, what sort of pressure is normal for a larger Hypalon RIB?

I’m sure when topping up the tubes on our 6.5M Ocean I’ll have a go with the Bravo at some point, and of course having the facility available I might as well set a pressure.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Nasher

Slightly less than the setpoint of the pressure release valves I'd have thought. Can't remember what that is off hand.

I've always used 3psi for tubes & 11psi for air floors - although I guess that that the correct answer is "ask the manufacturer"

It should be in the manufacturer's handbook supplied with the boat.
The normal pressures on our Humber are 2.75psi

Thanks Guys

No chance of the handbook I'm afraid.

I'd be surprised if Ocean handed one out when the boat was new, let alone it being passed on when I brought it as an abused project 7 years ago.

Do you guys who buy new boats really get a handbook with it?

Nasher.

My 18' Polaris is spec'd at 2.5 psi. As I recall, my 14' Achilles SIB was 3 or 3.5 psi.

Bottom line: it varies.

Our Ribcraft came with handbooks for the boat, electronics, trailer, engine...all wrapped up in a RC logo-ed briefcase. Nice

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I have a 1998 Ocean 6.5 that had been abused so badly I had to strip it back to a bare hull and tubes when I brought it 7 years ago and start from scratch.

If it ever had a CE plate, which I doubt back then, it's long gone.
All I have is a serial number moulded in to the transom which a kind previous owner decided to drill a hole in the middle of

Windsor Brothers answer to every question I've ever asked starts with "er, about......" and so many different people have built their tubes over the years they will not commit to a serious answer, hence trying to work it out for myself.

Oh, and the only paperwork that came from the dealer with the boat, engine and non-working electrics was a receipt and a promise to 'bugger off' rapidly if they saw me coming back
