Powerboat training in Plymouth

I am looking to buy a RIB and think it would be a good idea to do some training before hand. Can anyone recommend somewhere in the Plymouth area?

My friend did a RYA powerboat level 2 course with Plymouth Powerboat School recently. He was very impressed with the standard of instruction and quality of their boat. I think their website is www.powerboatschool.com

Hi Tom, welcome to the forum, good luck with your Rib buying and if you need any advice this is the place to get it!
I did my level 2 powerboat course a week ago with Plymouth Powerboat School courtesy of their instructor Michael Whelan (01752 873087) I used my own boat which may well be an option for you as well. Not only did I learn a lot about boathandling but also about the boat itself and the waters in the Plymouth area, really enjoyed the course and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or the school.

If you go along to Mt Batten center there are a few advertising there and also the centre is a training establishment in its own right.

Plymouth Sailing School for me too - did everything up to commercial Yachtmaster with them and very happy.

Not sure if Plymouth University still do Powerboat courses (from QAB) as part of their part-time education courses.
Might be worth picking up one of their publications.

I think the Uni and the Outdoor Ed center and the Mt Batten center have all joined forces at the Batten site. My best guess would be to call the reception.

After much calling around and consideration of the options available, I decided to go with Plymouth Powerboat School. They put on a midweek course for my wife and myself for £400 (nearly half what one place wanted). The 5.8m RIB used looked almost new and handled amazingly well in the waves outside the breakwater!. Our instructor (Michael) was very friendly and seemed to have a very broad knowledge of the subject.

Our confidence has been greatly improved and I would recommend the course to anyone else in the same position.

Looking forward to going back for my intermediate later in the year.
