Powerboat & Rib magazine

How many folk have renewed???
I've had several emails to re-subscribe then a couple of voicemails so out of courtesy I sent a polite email as to why I wouldn't be and my reasons for it!
Mainly I commented that for the general joe blogs on a budget and basic wage , many features and articles weren't geared for that and more and more for someone that could shell out £££s
The email I received in response for this I felt was hilarious as the fact they listed every article that they thought was! If folk want email then I'm happy to fwd it

I have the chance when they relaunched under the new banner but I did not renew this year mainly for the same reasons as yourself. Most of the mag is not rib related and what is focused at the top end. When they asked for feedback I suggested they refocus some of their content to the many ribbers who have to maintain their ribs over the years and cannot afford to renew regularly. But heyho no response.

Didn't bother renewing my subscription. Not enough in it that I found interesting, but to be fair I am not really a great magazine reader of any topic.

I'm not renewing either, for the same reasons as Gramas and Jambo.
From my point of view too many top end 6-figure boats / reviews, not enough articles on ribs / ribbing at an everyday level, and technical articles either very advanced & technical (e.g chine aero / hydro- dynamics, or very basic e.g how to come alongside).

I also find the front size / text colour imposed over full page photos not easy to read - probably very arty but I'd prefer smaller pictures and proper text boxes - showing my age I guess.

I appreciate it's difficult to market a magazine for both hard power boaters and Ribbers, but, the balance / content's not right for me. £25 is a day's fuelwell nearly.

On a similar vein the reason I never signed up to it was for the same reasons as above.....

I see it more as the "Yachting World" end of the powerboat mags.

Occasionally there's something of interest so I'll buy it off the shelf, but know I won't be able to afford anything in the "for sale" section withiout a major lottery win!

Very vaild post about the text size and it being difficult to read. I found the RI article very hard going on my eyes. But I found this article of great interest.

Hi gents..
I read all your comments with interest,
and maybe some of the RibNet Massive would be up for contributing to
a series of articles about some of the most popular Ribs
on the second hand market at the budget end.....
- Searider, Ribcraft, Humber and Ribeye -
If you have comments, thoughts, advice about ownership, repair, and operation,
I would be very interested in hearing them and building them into the articles.
The Editor has signed off on this series, so now there is a chance to produce
the kind of article that people on the forum would be interested in.
Please PM me if you have something you can contribute, photos, funny stories,
how you came to own your Rib, upgrades you have done,
and problems you have had.

thanks in advance
Andy

Hms has signed off? No longer editor? Why if your part of the magazine come on and say this when I was sent a lovely email basically diss agreeing with only what I put as my reasons for non renewal
Looks to me I'm not the only one who shares the same views and regardless what's printed we all know what direction it's marketed for

Yes HMS is still the editor, what I meant was that he had agreed to the concept of the articles.....
and yes I contribute to the magazine - about things that interest me and things I think others may be interested in.
I dont know what you mean when you say "regardless of what's printed"?
Surely your judging the magazine on what's printed?
I would guess that making an exclusively RIB orientated magazine isn't economically viable in terms of circulation.

That's not what my original post or email steered towards mate, what I put over was that it's geared to the more wealthy , when was there a budget rib bought 2nd hand ant spruced up etc , again to my view I feel that as a man who is in terms of affordability able to stretch to a mere 3/5kmax and look to refurb over time then most articles etc excluded me , my view my opinion , pm your email and I'll happily fwd u the cocky reply I received , all that was required was a " yes that's great maybe we can look at that angle", and your comment of only ribs, well I've owned motor cruisers/ harbour boats and done them up to great quality on a shoestring!!! So in reply to that u are off the mark if thinking I wanted a rib magazine , not having a pop mate as some features I've enjoyed it was an overall view on mag

I guess jollies & freebies in a 10 year old tatty Searider don't have the same appeal (or advertising revenue) to the editors as a corporate from one of the superyacht tender manfs.

and/or people who enjoy reading about those things don't spend as much money with advertisers - so ad revenue is less.

Err, why would people who want to read about RIB refurbs, small boat safety, engine maintenance, trailer repair, SIB cruising etc want to buy a glossy for money when they can read RIBnet for free (or £20 if they have a conscience )?
