One of our more voluble members recommended spraying it as a general cleaner. The general consensus was that this wouldn't be a good idea.

I guess on here the real problem is people who won't accept others views or ideas, just blindly think they're right and tell the OP a more experienced person's view is wrong. Then the OP is in a quandary as to who to believe. That said, if you want a professional opinion, pay for it. That's the definition of a "professional".

So, who wants some financial advice..... We can all start by getting rid of our boats!!
Actually I do get paid for my advice and I'm not sure but cookee probably does as well, talking from my own advice that I give to you guys freely I will stand by what I've said,, I don't post specific advice lightly because if they take my advice and its wrong I've buggered someone's boat up, so I'm usually 100% certain before I post on most stuff, not just a wild guess.
As a professional boat builder you can pay me if you like, this leads me full circle to what I posted first, do I shut up unless you guys pay me, which probably wouldn't happen or do I just not bother given any advice and let my 40 odd years of experience go to waste

The Magazine does it again

I am a new member and have watched the forum for some time now without getting involved but I had to join in order to ask the following question regarding PBR Magazine and the Editor and Son combination. I hopefully have attached an advert for the 'Mazda' sponsored 'WINNER' (hmmmmm) of the Ireland event last year. I assume that false advertising is still a crime in this country? This RIB is now over a year old and I have seen her take part in many events and cruises, as covered by PBR and also be used as a toy by TMS down in Exmouth. "Only 80hrs Hull use"??? Round Ireland alone must have been nearly 100!!!. TMS at it again after the debacle with the Mazda sponsored 'Winner' Tag. Like father like son it seems......

And it broke down round ireland.

The term 'Hull has only 80 hours use' is an interesting one, I bet some legal expert could argue that the Hull of a boat has a primary purpose which would be be to displace water so that it floats according to the rules of physics then surely that hull has had far more hours of use than 80 hours if you think about how many hours of use it has had in keeping water displaced so as to hold the entire boat floating on water even if stationary.

Come on chaps any legal experts out there.

Discuss in 100 words.

Agreed re hull, artistic licence I guess will be argued, but whether it broke down is irrelevant as it says it has a new engine. Surely they could t pass off the one used RI as new, even if registered on point of sale to give full warranty....

think it's a touch more than artistic license Paul, even if a brand new engine has been fitted the rest of the kit has been well used to say the least, and was the break down purely an engine related issue or were there other problems, maybe fuel system related. I'm not saying it ain't a nice rib, n whoever eventually buys it will no doubt get a good setup, but at least be straight with the potential customer, they may not be party to the history

Whilst I shan't comment on the rest, pretty much every boat has broken down at some point for whatever reason! Do you really expect to be told about every incident with a flat battery, blocked fuel filter, air in fuel system, lack of fuel, snapped control cables, etc. of a used boat, however new or under warranty it is?

Unless it was a significant issue that caused the breakdown and required serious effort/changes to resolve, surely it's just part of boating!
