I always mix mine in the bottom of a tall coffee jar that is tall enough to get the brush all the way in and put the lid on.

I have the lid off the jar for as short a periods of time as possible, and in that way the glue and the brush you are using stay usable for hours.

Keeping out of the sun and wind helps, you can also put it in the fridge in a sealable container to give another hour or so.

what about once you have opened a tin, used a small amount and re sealed it, ?
un activated of course, i have had the cat go off in glass bottle many a time but glue is fine in tin

A Pyrex jug which Holds 1.5 Ltrs will become unusable after one and a half hours during building and fitting. Pot life can as mentioned be extended using a lid and fridge etc. If the seal is good on a previously opened can it should be good to go for a while.

I have about 12 different areas around the rubbing strake that needs attention. I was hoping to tackle one area at a time, but as I'll be mixing in the pot it looks like I'll have to deal with the whole lot together. Knowing I can extend the pot life by putting it in the fridge is a little more comforting.

One for Ribraff........Should I prime the rubbing strake with pvc glue before sticking using the hypalon glue?

yep, do all your prep first, glueing is the easy bit

It spends on the strake, you will need to determine wether it is EPDM or PVC, the EPDM will need a primer of the hypalon adhesive mixed down 50/50 with Toluene and the PVC will need PVC adhesive but not thinned down, best results are achieved by leaving the primer on overnight before glueing together, as Biff mentioned... Get everything prepped beforehand which will give you plenty of time to do the job. Which boat is it for? I might be able to help you on determing what the strake is made from.

Thanks for that. I haven't the Toluene for thinning it down, will it stick with just the glue?
