Poole Facilities Question?

Hi Lads,I come to poole alot with my 15' boat,And was wondering if theres anywhere with hosepipe facilities to wash my engine through,As we camp in organford manner,but they dont have any,obviously the slip i use at the yachtsman doesn't have one as its free,Does baiter?

Also is there any cheap place to keep it in the water maybe,for a week?

Is it essential to flush my engine through after every use?

Any help would be great.Cheers Jamie

Two taps at Baiter slip, opposite the top of the slip, you will need your own hose.

Although it is good practice to flush your engine with fresh water is is certainly not essential after every trip and I would say that 95% of engines are not flushed everytrip. I always flush when the boat comes out of the water(it is dry stacked) but when on moorings overnight or in marina's, I never flush.

Is it salt water up there then? if it's fresh water or brackish by the time to get the the slipway then you shouldn't have to flush your engine through every time if you are only there for a week or so. Give it a good flush through when you get back home though, it's always good practice

@Rick what hose connections do i need to connect to the tap end? Or is just a slide on?

@Qcamel yeah ive heard mixed suggestions on this matter.but i cant see how a couple of days would hurt.

@psychopic Na m8 its salt water,Except up near swanage in the river bit.

Hi jw.

The taps at Baiter have a screw-thread on them from memory. I'll try to get a photo of the connector we use.

Personally, we flush every use. It only takes 5 minutes and it can't hurt.

Baiter is £8.50 for launch, parking (you can park your whole rig without uncoupling too) and harbour dues. There's a nice big carparking area for kitting/dekitting too. Just make sure your trailer's properly secured to your tow vehicle and nothing's on show - it can be a bit iffy down there.

There are also public loos just over the field.

You could try Cobbs Quay Marina. It would cost you about £13 a day though. Depending on how long a stay you're after you could join the MDL crusing club (free) and then you'd get every 7th night free (cumulative over the year and works at any MDL marina)

What i was thinking of doing was...

Launch from hamworthy as its free, and safe for car parking in the yachtsman.

Then i could go to baiter to but the boat back on the trailer as the slipway at hamworthy isnt good for that.

Would i get charged for getting the boat out there and thats all?

Will look into that,although it is a bit steep,and just added costs to a expensive hobby lol.

Might be worth trying Davis's Boatyard (next to Cobbs in Hamworthy) for cheaper mooring. Very friendly place. They have a slip with tap too. Not sure what they charge for using it now but they charged me £25 for launch Sat/retrieve Sun 2 years ago including car parking.

The tap connectors are the standard screw on type, I use a standard 'hozelock' connector.

Wareham was £15 quid last year. That includes parking. Tap is on the campsite though, but dont seem to mind. Not sure if the river wouldn't be fresh water at that point?
