How about cutting the flange off and extending the moulding. Then glass the console to the deck as per normal....

Normal foam wouldnt but this stuff is the same grade that they make light aircraft wings and fusalages from then glass over.. how much stronger do you want it.
If the foam core is strong enough for an inspected aircraft then surly its strong enough for a boat.
Agreed the foaam blocks you buy (sponge to the layman) isnt strong enough

Sorry for a numpty question. How do I Extend the moulding mate?

Cut the flange off that would be bolted to the deck and get some work top, preferably smooth and put this against the outside of your console, fastening it somehow?
Make sure its clean and put some mould release wax on a few coats, then gelcoat, then lay it up as usual.

If your feeling clever you could use the edge of the work top (curved edge) to produce a new flange too!

Depends if you mess it up.

I'm made an airbox for my car out of fibreglass. Use cardboard for a mould, coated it with a layer of wax and away I went, peeled off no problem.

Not hard if you have the time and space.

Space is an issue BUT the manson family (wife and kids) are going away for 4 nights at the end of august.

Think I need to have a practice first though. Maybe a battery box for behind the double jockey?

BAck to the console though, what smooth and shiny stuff could I use to go around the bends in the console (mainly the front). Kitchen work top would be sound for the sides.

Or would it be easier just making a box out of plywood?

It's because I nearly always stand up that I want to raise it up a bit.
