Pluging Holes - Advice Required

I'm looking for some advice on filling a hole in my RIBS transom.
To cut a long story short, I drilled a 4mm hole in the wrong position while fitting a fish finder. What is the best way of plugging this hole so that no water leaks into the bilge?
I have filled the hole with silicone sealant at the moment then I entended to cover it with GEL coat.
Does anyone see any problems with this method?

Mark

Don't let that boat anywhere near the water until the experts on here have told you the correct fixing procedure.

I have used Isopon P40 in the past with excellent results. I've tried silicone sealent and that just doesn't work.

Alternatively do a search on this forum for "Gelcoat repairs" etc.

Best of luck.

You need to fill with an expoxy or polyester based filler

Thanks to Biggles and Stephen.
I will make a visit to my local Chandlery and get the filler as suggested.
