Welcome

Couple of questions: Any limit on size? 12.5k will go alot further if you went second hand but if you had a size restriction eg towing weight or garage size and what do you want to use it for? Diving, fishing etc?

Blimey dont u guys sleep???? Good access to the sea...beach......slipway. I have a 4x4 Isuzu so no problem with towing. I thought 5000mm ish. would use for fishing... access to some lovely islands off shore....just having a good time. Plenty of room for storage etc. Cheers phil. ps i guess it pays to get the right rib first time around. Hate to get the wrong one which appears tends to happen reading the site?

It depends how you want to go, some people go on loads of demos before choosing the perfect rib whilst others will find something that they reckon should do them for £2k~ on ebay and make sure that the whole ribbing lark is for them.

For a budget of 12.5k there would be a fair few options open around the 5-5.5m~ish mark (new) and possible up to around 6.5m~ 2nd hand.

New boats to consider:

Osprey (obviously! ) - various options: 5.15, Eagle, Kestrel, Viper

Ribcraft - 4.8, 5.3

Humber - Assault / Destroyer / O - pro

XS - 460, 500, 540

Ribtec - 455,, 535

Leeway - 4.9, 5.5

and of course countless others.

Second hand some good deals:

Solent

BRIG

Really quite nice Delta

Osprey

Humber (brand new)

There, that should be enough to get you started, although I'm sure you can find some more / better ones with a bit of effort

Almost regardless of what you buy first time you will want bigger / fast / better soon after! (Or if you buy the biggest / fastest you'll want something more manageable, with sensible fuel bills, more "fun").

Hi Phil and welcome

If you want something about 5m with your budget you will have a good choice, we are helping a customer find a slightly larger boat for slightly less money and there are plenty out there.

Hi, & welcome.

No matter what you buy, there will be fairly polarised opinion on here! The one thing to remember in this game is that my dream boat is the next man's worst nightmare......

One thing to bear in mind - 5m can be a LOT more spacious if you go for a beamier boat - Humber O-Pro being a prime example in that it has two (Three in some hull sizes) beam options. You'd be amazed what an extra 0.2m beam can do for your deck space. I assume you are saying 5m due to storage space restrictions? If it's going in a garage, remember that most single doors are 2.1m wide, which may limit you in what you can fit in. Somewhere out here is a post with data for hulls that would go through a single door. Might be a good place to start?

If you are on the West Coast, you could come along to the Easdale cruise, scrounge a lift in various boats, and get a feel for what's out there, differnet layouts etc.
