Pair of 40hps if you want a twin setup..

I have always thought about a twin set up on a 5.4m searider, but never found engines I want, now found engines but no boat.. but if you have thought about re-engining there are these two..

I might pursue these for my 4.7 project. Jasper put a pair of 30's on a 4.7 about 2 yars ago for a customer and I always wanted to do it for me!

Weight issue..

I know the 4.7 is only rated for twin 30's, but it also depends on the weight, these two look like the older style 30/40 block 2 cylinder models rather than the 3 cylinder heavier models..
I am doing the same with this little Avon S3.45 at the moment. Putting a model 40c tohatsu on the back which weighs 61kg as oppossed to the 25 yamaha on there at the moment which weighs 59kg.. but the equivalent 3 cylinder tohatsu 40 weighs another 10 - 15 kilos.

Long time ago i used to use a Avon 5.4 with twin yam 40's on the back it was a good set up but did land stern heavy.

Oh, i want twins again, not the ones that are about to come in from school and clear the cupboards ... petrol ones would be much cheaper and fourstrokes a lot quieter lol

Trouble is an Avon will be sooooo slow with twin 40s and manual start, that will be fun on a cold winter morning

An avon would be a wee bit quicker with this on the back

If I want to go fast I'll borrow your Tohatsu? I'm very much into RIB Dressage nowadays.

I'd have to have my pockets very full of Oil money and my tummy very full of Hennessy to pay 1200 quid for a 23 year old 2 stroke

twin 30's

I worked a 5.4 searider with twin 30's, and they were elec start, but manual tilt, wasn't a bother, and the boat was excellent with them on. much better than a single 50 on another one,

There is a small round chap in Sarfhampton who should be able to show you how to spin a small rib with 85 hp on the back.

Yep and it did 30 knots which is more than we ever got out of a BWM with twin 40s.

Difference being..

I think Rogue Wave was talking about putting the twin 40hps on a 4.7m rather than a 5.4m, we know twin 40's loose about 20% power for twin set up so on a 5.4 you would be running at 64hp on a boat that can take 90, or as some people do 150hp.. whereas 64hp on a boat designed to take 70.. only a small drop in HP.

So would be a good project to see I think.. plus if one engine breaks you can still get back..

Afterall a 40 hp mariner weighs about 80 kgs. So two of them would be the equivalent weight of JSPs 115 Yam v4. On the back of a 4.7m Avon

Might be worth launching the boat and have two fat blokes sit on the back as a trial before going ahead and purchasing. Give them a paddle each to represent the top speed you would get with twin 40s too

Heavy steering, lots of easy start on a cold morning to get them going, expensive to run and a top speed of 20 knots hmm or fit a nice 3 cylinder Yam or Tohatsu and have a really good sporty little rib. Now if we just knew of a Tohatsu 90 that could be fettled for a few quid this could be an easy project to complete. Someone might even throw in a white console for the project
