Overnight fishing

Weather is looking very settled here so I'm planning on launching tomorrow eve with the intention of fishing through till dark then kipping and getting up for first light and fishing on. Has anyone done this. Does any one have any comments or advice for such a venture.

Take warm clothes. Often after a hot day you can get a heavy dew. You don't say if you're kipping on the boat or camping. If your staying on the boat, good luck. The sound of the water lapping of the hull is nice, but not conjusive to getting a decent night's sleep. Get a decent breakfast. I love fishing, but heading to sea without my obligatory coffee is a no-go!

Not done it fishing, but we've done it diving. We drifted 6 miles during the night, but ended up only 1/2 mile from where we stopped engines. We were on a live aboard & displayed "not under command" lights IIRC. It's something I've often thought about on those still, hot nights on the coast.

Thanks for the replies guys. Got clothes and lighting sorted. Will be sleeping on board at anchor when were done fishing. We have this excellent bass mark that we have wanted to fish into darkness and looks like the weather is going to play ball. Fingers crossed.

If you're anywhere where there may be other boat traffic, you need to display an all round white light, technically you should, regardless of where you are , but hey I might look into rigging a tarp over the boat to give a bit of protection from the dew/breeze/seagull sh1t

The sound of the water will bug you all night long, however come sunrise it seems worthwhile. Bring coffee & earplugs

Bear in mind someone will see you launch and not return in a boat that you'd expect to return before dark. So make sure (a) you have a shore contact who clearly knows your plans and how you can be contacted (VHF, Callsign, MMSI, will your VHF be on through the night? Mobile?) and I'd suggest you give the CG a call to let them know of your plans. Perhaps the answer for the VHF being off at anchor is to call CG when you anchor and then on departure.

Sounds a great adventure, thats one thing I would like to do is stay overnight on my boat anchored somewhere, will have to look into fitting some form of camping tent cover as my sunbed at bow would make an excellent bed, just need a cover.

Thanks all for your comments. Will take it all on board as it were. Thought someone may have said I was mad but no, all positive comments. Just checked weather again and all looks perfect for 7pm launch. If the bass are obliging will fish as long as. Otherwise will grab a few hours kip if I can then up at 4 am for first light.

Not sure why your having trouble uploading, but fix'd that one for ya, some fine Bass you been catching there, I haven't fished over night for many years,
but remember it being great fun, with more chance of pulling a big flattie in the dark.
