Outboard Rigging Question

hi,

Well I thought I was being really smart by getting the fancy corrugated rigging tube to run the engine connections from the transom to the engine. Everything runs through a single hole in the transom and is bundled very tidy and neat, very professional looking

Of course, after I started the install is when I realized that the hydraulic hoses need to be outside of that, DOH!

So how do most people handle that? A second hole in the transom for the hydraulics? Punch the hydraulics out of the fancy rigging tube?

Thanks,
Jason

any preference on location for the transom hole? what's the best routing for the hoses? On the right, left, center?

Thanks,
Jason

Anybody used the teleflex bulkhead hose kits? Looks like it's got a fitting to go through the transom. Yet another way to spend more money. Good bad indifferent?

I used the bulkhead fitting kit. I also bought 2 pairs of hoses, one pair 12" longer than the other, then used 1 of each length, the longer one going to the far end of the cylinder. Looks tidier and I've got a spare of each now.

holes in the TRANSOM do not sound like the normal rigging plan to me... ...and perhaps not to be encouraged?

I think Martini would agree, that it's worth having a bit of length on the conduit so that it doesn't restrict engine tilting or turning too much.

On the 733's the only way to get from here to there is through the transom. The stock outboards from zodiac look to have five holes, I'm going to have three with the single engine.

I like the idea of the bulkhead setups, nice and neat. Were you all DIY for yours or did you use the prepackaged teleflex hose kits? Are the prepackaged kits actually two sets of hoses? Are the hoses something super magical or can have them made at a hydraulic hose place? We have a good shop in town, they are close to work so I might ask tomorrow.

Thanks,
Jason

or you let the hydraulic hoses 'exit' the neat rigging tube although still trying to find a neat way of doing that ('tape is your friend' but may not help the 'profi-ness')

Shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a boat!!!!

The teleflex bulkhead fittings are neat, or something like these... Bainbridge Marine > Index Marine Aluminium Cable Glands

I use old hoover pipe , the guys from the local recycling centre save them for me and I give them a quid each for them, just make sure that you don't get the type with steel reinforcing in (rare)
Obviously that's only the one diameter but they look exactly the same as in the pics.
